Terms of Service

Welcome to LOC8. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the LOC8 mobile application ("LOC8" or "the App"). By downloading, installing, or using LOC8, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

LOC8 was built for law enforcement officers, first responders, and public safety professionals.

ACCEPTANCE

By accessing or using LOC8, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are using LOC8 on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

You must be at least 13 years old to use LOC8.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE

LOC8 provides on-device display of your current location data, including:

  • Street address (resolved via reverse geocoding)
  • GPS latitude, longitude, altitude, and accuracy
  • Compass heading
  • Plus Code (Open Location Code), shown in the App as a Location Code
  • The ability to save and recall pinned locations, including optional custom labels and private notes you add to them
  • An Apple Watch companion display

LOC8 is intended as a quick-reference tool. It is not a replacement for official dispatch, mapping, or emergency response systems used by public safety agencies.

SUBSCRIPTION TIERS AND BILLING

LOC8 offers the following plans:

  • Weekly: $0.49 per week, with a 3-day free trial
  • Annual: $4.99 per year
  • Lifetime: $9.99 (one-time purchase, no recurring charge)

Pricing is in US dollars and may vary by region or currency. The exact price applicable to your account is shown in the App at the time of purchase.

Free Trial - Weekly Plan

The Weekly subscription includes a 3-day free trial for new subscribers. At the end of the trial, your Apple ID account will be automatically charged the weekly subscription fee unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

Auto-Renewal

The Weekly and Annual subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (one week or one year, respectively). Your Apple ID account will be charged the renewal fee within 24 hours before the current period ends.

You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal at any time:

  • Open the iPhone Settings app
  • Tap your Apple ID at the top
  • Tap "Subscriptions"
  • Select LOC8 and choose "Cancel Subscription"

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will continue to have access until that date.

Lifetime Purchase

The Lifetime tier is a one-time purchase. It grants access to LOC8 features for the lifetime of the application and does not recur.

Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests are handled directly by Apple in accordance with Apple's refund policies. To request a refund, visit https://reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support.

TRACKING PERMISSION

When you first open LOC8, iOS will ask whether you allow tracking. This permission relates to advertising attribution only and has nothing to do with your location.

  • Granting tracking permission allows LOC8 to share an anonymous device identifier with our attribution provider so we can measure which advertisements brought users to the App.
  • Denying tracking permission does not change any feature of the App. All functionality remains available regardless of your choice.
  • You can change tracking permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

ACCEPTABLE USE

You agree to use LOC8 only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Use LOC8 in any manner that violates applicable law or regulation
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App or any of its features
  • Use the App in a manner that interferes with its operation or harms other users

LOCATION ACCURACY AND NO WARRANTY

LOC8 displays location information derived from your device's GPS hardware and from third-party geocoding services that translate coordinates into a street address. This information may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, delayed, or unavailable. The street address, Location Code, cross street, county, and other place information shown in LOC8 are estimates produced by automated systems and may not match your actual location. The accuracy of GPS coordinates and of the resolved address depends on many factors outside our control, including satellite visibility, signal interference, weather and environmental conditions, buildings and terrain, device hardware and settings (including Precise Location being turned off), the quality and freshness of underlying map data, and the availability of network connectivity.

ALWAYS INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY YOUR LOCATION BEFORE RELYING ON IT. Confirm your position by direct observation, street signs, building numbers, official maps, or other trusted means before acting on, recording, or communicating any location shown in LOC8. Do not rely solely on LOC8 for navigation, dispatch, emergency response, officer safety, or any decision where incorrect, delayed, or missing location data could result in injury, death, property damage, or other harm.

LOC8 IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR OFFICIAL DISPATCH, COMPUTER-AIDED DISPATCH (CAD), EMERGENCY RESPONSE, SURVEYING, OR PROFESSIONAL NAVIGATION SYSTEMS. It is a quick-reference convenience tool only. If you are in an emergency, contact 911 (or your local emergency number) directly and follow your agency's official procedures.

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE LOCATION INFORMATION LOC8 DISPLAYS IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND NO LIABILITY FOR INJURY OR LOSS

YOU USE LOC8 ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DECISION, ACTION, OR INACTION YOU OR ANY OTHER PERSON TAKES BASED ON INFORMATION DISPLAYED BY THE APP.

YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOCATION INFORMATION YOU READ, RECORD, RELAY, TRANSMIT, BROADCAST, OR OTHERWISE COMMUNICATE TO ANY OTHER PERSON OR SYSTEM, INCLUDING DISPATCHERS, OTHER RESPONDERS, OR THIRD PARTIES. The address or coordinates LOC8 shows may be wrong, and communicating wrong location information may cause a response to be sent to the wrong place or delayed. It is your responsibility to verify location information before you communicate or act on it.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPER, ITS AFFILIATES, AND ITS SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, BODILY HARM, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR ANY OTHER LOSS, HARM, OR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER TO YOU OR TO ANY THIRD PARTY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO: (a) THE ACCURACY, INACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, TIMELINESS, OR AVAILABILITY OF ANY LOCATION INFORMATION DISPLAYED BY LOC8; (b) YOUR USE OF, OR RELIANCE ON, THE APP OR ANY INFORMATION IT PROVIDES; (c) ANY LOCATION INFORMATION YOU COMMUNICATE TO, OR THAT IS RELIED UPON BY, ANY OTHER PERSON OR SYSTEM; OR (d) ANY FAILURE, INTERRUPTION, DELAY, OR ERROR OF THE APP OR THE SERVICES IT DEPENDS ON. THIS APPLIES REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY (CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE) AND EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for personal injury or for certain other damages. In those jurisdictions, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law, and nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The App, including its source code, design, content, trademarks, and logos, is owned by the developer and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control.

PRIVACY

Your use of LOC8 is subject to our Privacy Policy, available at https://loc8app.com/privacy/ (or as updated). The Privacy Policy explains what information LOC8 collects, how it is used, and how you can manage tracking permissions.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

LOC8 integrates with the following third-party services to deliver its functionality:

  • Apple App Store and Apple ID, which handle payment processing and subscription billing
  • Geocoding services, including a third-party reverse-geocoding provider and Apple's geocoder, which resolve GPS coordinates into a street address
  • what3words, which generates the Location Code from GPS coordinates
  • A subscription management provider, which manages subscription state
  • AppsFlyer and Google Ads, which receive anonymous advertising attribution data only if you grant tracking permission
  • A private database operated by the developer, which stores bug reports you submit and an anonymous location-accuracy log used to improve address accuracy

LOC8 is an independent application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these third-party services, including what3words. LOC8 integrates with their platforms to provide its features. Your use of these third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

TERMINATION

You may stop using LOC8 at any time by deleting it from your device. Active subscriptions will continue until you cancel them through Apple's subscription management.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to LOC8 for any user who violates these Terms or applicable law.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER, ITS AFFILIATES, AND ITS SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APP.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100), WHICHEVER IS LESS.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for certain damages. To the extent such exclusions or limitations are not permitted under applicable law, they apply only to the maximum extent allowed.

INDEMNIFICATION

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the developer from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of your use of LOC8, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of LOC8 after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes may also be communicated via in-app notice or other reasonable means.

GOVERNING LAW

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of LOC8 shall be resolved in the courts of California, except where prohibited by law.

APPLE-SPECIFIC TERMS

LOC8 is distributed via the Apple App Store. You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and the developer only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.

In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation regarding the App.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance will have the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

These Terms are subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, available at:

In the event of any conflict between Apple's Standard EULA and these Terms, Apple's Standard EULA applies for the matters it governs.
