Terms of Service

Welcome to LOC8. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the LOC8 mobile application, including its Apple Watch companion app ("LOC8" or "the App"). By downloading, installing, or using LOC8, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

LOC8 was built for law enforcement officers, first responders, and public safety professionals.

ACCEPTANCE

By accessing or using LOC8, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are using LOC8 on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

You must be at least 13 years old to use LOC8.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE

LOC8 provides on-device display of your current location data, including:

  • Street address and cross street (resolved via reverse geocoding), and county
  • GPS latitude, longitude, altitude, and accuracy, in DD, DMS, DDM, MGRS, and UTM formats
  • Compass heading
  • Plus Code (Open Location Code), shown in the App as a Location Code
  • Local weather conditions
  • A map with standard and satellite imagery, address search, and the ability to route to or track toward a pinned point with the compass
  • The ability to save and recall pinned locations, including optional custom labels and private notes you add to them
  • Team Rooms: optional, time-limited rooms in which members share live positions and messages with each other
  • An Apple Watch companion display and an optional watch-face complication showing your last address

LOC8 is intended as a quick-reference tool. It is not a replacement for official dispatch, mapping, or emergency response systems used by public safety agencies.

SUBSCRIPTION TIERS AND BILLING

LOC8 offers the following plans:

  • Monthly: $4.95 per month, with a 3-day free trial
  • Lifetime: $24.95 (one-time purchase, no recurring charge)

Pricing is in US dollars and may vary by region or currency. The exact price applicable to your account is shown in the App at the time of purchase.

Free Trial - Monthly Plan

The Monthly subscription includes a 3-day free trial for new subscribers. At the end of the trial, your Apple ID account will be automatically charged the monthly subscription fee unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

Auto-Renewal

The Monthly subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period (one month). Your Apple ID account will be charged the renewal fee within 24 hours before the current period ends.

You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal at any time:

  • Open the iPhone Settings app
  • Tap your Apple ID at the top
  • Tap "Subscriptions"
  • Select LOC8 and choose "Cancel Subscription"

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will continue to have access until that date.

Lifetime Purchase

The Lifetime tier is a one-time purchase. It grants access to LOC8 features for the lifetime of the application and does not recur.

Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests are handled directly by Apple in accordance with Apple's refund policies. To request a refund, visit https://reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support.

NO ADS IN THE APP; ADVERTISING MEASUREMENT

LOC8 shows no advertisements inside the App. To measure the performance of our own ad campaigns, the App includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK, and iOS may show the standard App Tracking Transparency prompt on first launch; whatever you choose there is honored. What is shared for measurement is limited to subscription events and the identifiers described in the Privacy Policy, and your location is never shared with any advertising service. The only permissions LOC8 requests are the ones its features require, such as location access, the optional tracking permission above, and, if you use Team Rooms with background sharing, "Always" location permission.

TEAM ROOMS AND USER CONTENT

Team Rooms let a small group of LOC8 users share live positions and messages for a limited time. By creating or joining a room, you agree to the following:

  • Sharing is your choice. Joining a room shares your live position and chosen callsign with that room's members while you are in it. If you enable background sharing, your position continues updating while the App is in the background until you leave the room or it expires.
  • Room codes are access. Anyone with a room's code can join it while it is active, up to the room's member limit. You are responsible for who you share a code with.
  • Rooms are temporary. Rooms expire automatically after their set duration (1 to 24 hours). Positions and chat are relayed between members and are never stored on any server; chat history exists only on members' devices and is deleted when the room ends.
  • You are responsible for your content. Anything you send in a room's chat, and the callsign you choose, is your content. You agree not to send content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, threatening, or harassing, and not to use rooms to harass, stalk, or endanger any person.
  • Moderation and reporting. Messages and callsigns are filtered on-device for abusive content. You can hide messages from a member, and you can report a message; reporting sends that message's text to us so we can act on abuse. We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to Team Rooms, or to the App, for users who violate these rules.
  • Positions shared by others are estimates. Teammate positions are subject to the same GPS and network limitations as your own and may be delayed, stale, or wrong. Do not rely on a teammate's dot for any safety-critical decision.

ACCEPTABLE USE

You agree to use LOC8 only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Use LOC8 in any manner that violates applicable law or regulation
  • Use LOC8 to track, surveil, harass, or endanger any person
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App or any of its features
  • Use the App in a manner that interferes with its operation, abuses its services, or harms other users

LOCATION ACCURACY AND NO WARRANTY

LOC8 displays location information derived from your device's GPS hardware and from geocoding services that translate coordinates into a street address. This information may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, delayed, or unavailable. The street address, Location Code, cross street, county, weather, and other place information shown in LOC8 are estimates produced by automated systems and may not match your actual location. The accuracy of GPS coordinates and of the resolved address depends on many factors outside our control, including satellite visibility, signal interference, weather and environmental conditions, buildings and terrain, device hardware and settings (including Precise Location being turned off), the quality and freshness of underlying map data, and the availability of network connectivity.

ALWAYS INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY YOUR LOCATION BEFORE RELYING ON IT. Confirm your position by direct observation, street signs, building numbers, official maps, or other trusted means before acting on, recording, or communicating any location shown in LOC8. Do not rely solely on LOC8 for navigation, dispatch, emergency response, officer safety, or any decision where incorrect, delayed, or missing location data could result in injury, death, property damage, or other harm.

LOC8 IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR OFFICIAL DISPATCH, COMPUTER-AIDED DISPATCH (CAD), EMERGENCY RESPONSE, SURVEYING, OR PROFESSIONAL NAVIGATION SYSTEMS. It is a quick-reference convenience tool only. If you are in an emergency, contact 911 (or your local emergency number) directly and follow your agency's official procedures.

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE LOCATION INFORMATION LOC8 DISPLAYS IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND NO LIABILITY FOR INJURY OR LOSS

YOU USE LOC8 ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DECISION, ACTION, OR INACTION YOU OR ANY OTHER PERSON TAKES BASED ON INFORMATION DISPLAYED BY THE APP.

YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOCATION INFORMATION YOU READ, RECORD, RELAY, TRANSMIT, BROADCAST, OR OTHERWISE COMMUNICATE TO ANY OTHER PERSON OR SYSTEM, INCLUDING DISPATCHERS, OTHER RESPONDERS, OR THIRD PARTIES. The address or coordinates LOC8 shows may be wrong, and communicating wrong location information may cause a response to be sent to the wrong place or delayed. It is your responsibility to verify location information before you communicate or act on it. This applies equally to positions of Team Room members displayed to you.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPER, ITS AFFILIATES, AND ITS SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, BODILY HARM, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR ANY OTHER LOSS, HARM, OR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER TO YOU OR TO ANY THIRD PARTY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO: (a) THE ACCURACY, INACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, TIMELINESS, OR AVAILABILITY OF ANY LOCATION INFORMATION DISPLAYED BY LOC8, INCLUDING TEAM ROOM MEMBER POSITIONS; (b) YOUR USE OF, OR RELIANCE ON, THE APP OR ANY INFORMATION IT PROVIDES; (c) ANY LOCATION INFORMATION YOU COMMUNICATE TO, OR THAT IS RELIED UPON BY, ANY OTHER PERSON OR SYSTEM; (d) ANY CONTENT SENT BY ANY USER THROUGH A TEAM ROOM; OR (e) ANY FAILURE, INTERRUPTION, DELAY, OR ERROR OF THE APP OR THE SERVICES IT DEPENDS ON. THIS APPLIES REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY (CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE) AND EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for personal injury or for certain other damages. In those jurisdictions, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law, and nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

MAP AND ADDRESS DATA

Address, road, parcel, and map data shown in LOC8 is derived from a combination of public, openly licensed, commercially licensed, and government datasets, together with Apple Maps for map display. These datasets are maintained by third parties, change over time, and contain errors and omissions. Required attribution details are available in the App's legal section.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The App, including its source code, design, content, trademarks, and logos, is owned by the developer and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control.

PRIVACY

Your use of LOC8 is subject to our Privacy Policy, available via the link in the App (or at https://loc8app.com/privacy/ as updated). The Privacy Policy explains what information LOC8 collects and how it is used, including the Team Rooms privacy model.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

LOC8 integrates with the following third-party services to deliver its functionality:

  • Apple App Store and Apple ID, which handle payment processing and subscription billing
  • Geocoding services, including our own geocoding server, a third-party reverse-geocoding provider, and Apple's geocoder, which resolve GPS coordinates into a street address
  • what3words, which generates the Location Code from GPS coordinates
  • OpenWeather, which provides local weather conditions
  • Apple Maps, which provides map display and address search assistance
  • A subscription management provider (RevenueCat), which manages subscription state
  • Mixpanel, which receives anonymous product-usage analytics and masked recordings of the setup screens (never your location or anything you type)
  • A realtime relay (Supabase), which carries Team Room positions and chat between members without storing them
  • A private database operated by the developer, which stores bug and content reports you submit, minimal Team Room metadata, and anonymous diagnostics used to improve address accuracy

LOC8 is an independent application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these third-party services, including what3words. LOC8 integrates with their platforms to provide its features. Your use of these third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

TERMINATION

You may stop using LOC8 at any time by deleting it from your device. Active subscriptions will continue until you cancel them through Apple's subscription management.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to LOC8, including Team Rooms, for any user who violates these Terms or applicable law.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER, ITS AFFILIATES, AND ITS SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APP.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100), WHICHEVER IS LESS.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for certain damages. To the extent such exclusions or limitations are not permitted under applicable law, they apply only to the maximum extent allowed.

INDEMNIFICATION

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the developer from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of your use of LOC8, content you share through Team Rooms, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of LOC8 after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes may also be communicated via in-app notice or other reasonable means.

GOVERNING LAW

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of LOC8 shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Placer County, California, except where prohibited by law. These Terms are an agreement between you and LOC8 LLC, a California limited liability company.

APPLE-SPECIFIC TERMS

LOC8 is distributed via the Apple App Store. You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and the developer only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.

In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation regarding the App.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance will have the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

These Terms are subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, available at:

In the event of any conflict between Apple's Standard EULA and these Terms, Apple's Standard EULA applies for the matters it governs.
