Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 3, 2026
LOC8 respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the LOC8 mobile application handles information.
LOC8 was built for law enforcement officers, first responders, and public safety professionals. Privacy and operational security are foundational principles of this application.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
LOC8 does not require an account, and we do not collect personal information that identifies you, such as your name, or any location history tied to your identity, except as described in this policy.
Specifically:
- No account is created and no login is required
- No name, email, or contact information is collected, except optionally when you submit a bug report
- No location history or profile that can be linked to you is built
- No background tracking occurs
- No data is sold
LOC8 does transmit a limited amount of information in the specific cases described in this policy: resolving your coordinates into an address, an anonymous location-accuracy log used only to improve the app, advertising attribution, and optional bug reports. Each is explained below.
LOCATION DATA
LOC8 requires access to your device location in order to display your current street address, GPS coordinates, altitude, accuracy, compass heading, and Location Code.
To translate your latitude and longitude into a human-readable street address, your GPS coordinates are sent to geocoding services: a third-party reverse-geocoding provider and Apple's geocoder. To generate the Location Code, your coordinates are sent to what3words. These services receive only your latitude and longitude. They do not receive your device identifier, your name, or any other identifying information. They return an address or Location Code, which is displayed to you and discarded when you close the app.
LOC8 is an independent application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by what3words, Apple's geocoding service, or our reverse-geocoding provider. LOC8 integrates with these platforms to provide its features, and each service processes your coordinates under its own terms and privacy policy.
For these address and Location Code lookups, your coordinates:
- Are sent only for the purpose of returning an address or Location Code
- Are not retained by us in any form linked to your identity
- Are not associated with any account or user identity
- Are not used for any purpose other than the lookup
Separately, LOC8 records an anonymous location-accuracy log, described in the next section. That log carries no identifier that could link it to you.
When you close the app, location access stops. There is no background GPS.
Locations you choose to save (using the Pin feature), including any custom labels and private notes you add to them, are stored only on your device, never on any server.
LOCATION ACCURACY DIAGNOSTICS
To measure how often the address LOC8 shows is correct, and to improve it over time, the app records an anonymous accuracy log. Each entry contains your GPS coordinates (rounded), the address LOC8 displayed, an independent reference address looked up at the same coordinates for comparison, and basic context such as the app version and whether you were moving.
This log is anonymous by design:
- It contains no device identifier, account, name, or email
- It contains no identifier of any kind that could link entries to you or build a history of your movements
- Its entries cannot be read back or re-associated with you by the app
The accuracy log is stored in a private database operated by the developer. It is used only internally, for development purposes, to evaluate and improve the accuracy of the addresses LOC8 shows. It is not shared with any third party, is not used for advertising, and is never sold.
ADVERTISING AND ATTRIBUTION
When you first open LOC8, iOS will ask whether you allow tracking. This prompt is required by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework whenever an app collects an advertising identifier.
If you allow tracking:
- LOC8 collects your device's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) — a unique, anonymous identifier provided by iOS
- Your IDFA is shared with AppsFlyer, our attribution provider, and Google Ads, so we can measure which advertising campaigns brought new users to LOC8
- Your IDFA is not linked to your name, email, or location
- Your IDFA is used solely to measure advertising performance and to inform future ad spend decisions
If you deny tracking:
- No IDFA is collected
- LOC8 falls back to Apple's SKAdNetwork framework, which provides aggregate, privacy-preserving install reporting that contains no individual user data
- All app functionality remains identical — you do not lose access to anything
You can change your tracking choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
ANALYTICS AND APP USAGE
LOC8 uses AppsFlyer to measure how users interact with the application — for example, which onboarding slides are viewed, whether the paywall is reached, and whether a subscription is purchased. This information helps us improve the application.
Events are tied either to your IDFA (if you allowed tracking) or to your anonymous app-specific identifier (Apple's IDFV, which is unique to LOC8 on your device and cannot be linked to your activity in other apps). No name, email, or location data is included in these events.
PURCHASES
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment information.
LOC8 uses RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives a randomly generated anonymous user identifier and your subscription outcome. It does not receive your name, email, payment information, or location data.
Apple, AppsFlyer, RevenueCat, and Google may collect and process information in accordance with their own privacy policies:
- Apple — https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- AppsFlyer — https://www.appsflyer.com/legal/services-privacy-policy/
- RevenueCat — https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/
- Google — https://policies.google.com/privacy
BUG REPORTS
If you choose to submit a bug report from within the app, the following information is sent at the time you submit:
- The bug category you selected
- The description you wrote
- Your current GPS coordinates and address (so we can diagnose location-related issues)
- Device model, iOS version, network connectivity status, battery level, and low-power-mode status
- Optionally, the email address you provide
This information is sent only when you tap "Submit" and is used only for diagnostic purposes. It is stored in our private support database and is not shared with any other party.
If you do not submit a bug report, none of this information is collected.
DATA SHARING
We do not sell your information.
LOC8 shares information with service providers only for the purposes described above:
- A third-party reverse-geocoding provider and Apple's geocoder — receive GPS coordinates to return a street address
- what3words — receives GPS coordinates to generate the Location Code
- AppsFlyer — receives IDFA (if you allowed tracking) and anonymous in-app events for advertising attribution
- Google Ads — receives attribution signals via AppsFlyer
- RevenueCat — receives an anonymous user identifier and subscription status
- Apple — handles payment processing and SKAdNetwork attribution
- A private database operated by the developer — stores bug reports you submit and the anonymous location-accuracy log
The geocoding and Location Code providers receive only coordinates for a one-time lookup and return a result; they do not receive any identifier for you. LOC8 is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by these providers, including what3words. We do not share information with any other party.
BACKGROUND ACTIVITY
LOC8 operates only while open on your screen. When the app is closed, there is no background GPS usage, no background data collection, and no background processing.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
LOC8 is not directed to children under the age of 13. The app does not knowingly collect information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information through LOC8, please contact us at the address below and we will address it promptly.
CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the app after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
