Does it work offline?
Yes. Your coordinates, the compass, and every saved pin work with no signal, because GPS comes straight from the satellites. The address, nearest cross street, and three-word code are looked up from your position, so they fill in the moment you reconnect.
How does it find my nearest cross street?
It reads your live GPS position and resolves the closest intersecting street automatically, then shows it under your address in plain text. No map to search and no typing, so you can give dispatch a position they can route to fast.
What is a three-word address?
A unique three-word label for your exact spot, powered by what3words. Every 3 metre square on earth has its own three words. Share them and anyone can open that precise square in the app or on what3words, no street address needed. More on the three-word address.
Can I pin and save hydrants, gates, and LZs?
Yes. Drop a pin and it saves the full record: address, cross street, county, coordinates, and the three-word code. Pull it back up any shift, even with no signal. Built for hydrants, locked gates, standpipes, and rural sites with no address.
Does it work on Apple Watch?
Yes. The full readout is on your wrist: address, nearest cross street, live coordinates, and a true-heading compass. No phone in your hand. Apple Watch Ultra owners can map the Action Button to open straight to their position.
What coordinate formats does it show?
Four, and you tap to switch between them: decimal degrees (DD), degrees and decimal minutes (DDM), degrees, minutes, seconds (DMS), and MGRS military grid. Read out whichever format the unit on the other end is using. More on the MGRS military grid.
How do I share my exact location?
Tap your address to open the share sheet, or long press to copy. The share includes the three-word code and coordinates, so the other person lands on your exact spot, not just the street.
Does it track me in the background?
No. GPS runs only while the app is open, with two narrow exceptions you turn on yourself: a live Team Room keeps your dot updating for your team, and the watch complication refreshes your address. No location history is kept either way.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no signup and no login. Open it and your position is on screen. Nothing is tied to your name.
Does it drain my battery?
No. It only uses GPS while the app is open, with no background tasks and no notifications. Close it and it stops, so it will not sit and drain your battery across a shift.
Who is it built for?
Firefighters, medics, EMTs, and field crews who need their own exact position fast, and a quick way to put mutual aid or the air unit on it. It is a personal location tool, not a dispatch console or a CAD login.
